The next Raid Boss is available tomorrow morning! Here’s a more detailed overview of how this feature works.

    Summoning the Boss

Every Raid Boss is the same strength, regardless of the level of the player who unlocks it.

Raid Bosses are unlocked using 4 different Keys. Keys drop from Adventures in four specific Locations, each yielding a different Key. Adventures with higher energy costs have a higher chance of dropping a Key.

When doing Adventures in locations that drop Raid Boss Keys, you will be able to see how many of each Key you’ve currently got. You can also jump straight to the other Key locations to do Adventures there.

Eldjotunn Raid Boss Keys can be found in the North Midgard, South Midgard, Aegir's Sea and Aegir's Passage locations. You can unlock the Raid Boss as soon as you have one of each of the 4 Keys.

When the event ends, any unused Keys in your inventory can be turned in for XP.

Keys are not useful for anything other than unlocking Raid Bosses - for example, they can’t be equipped or used in crafting, so you might as well turn them in for rewards. :)

    Raid Group Mechanics

Raid Bosses are powerful opponents intended to be fought in large Parties of players. Parties are divided up into 3 level tiers. There are 10 Party Positions available for each Tier of player, for a max Party size of 30 Vikings.

We recommend your Raid contain at least 20 committed Players. Raid Bosses can become more difficult if members of the Party are absent or not keeping the Health bar up, so you may want to hand-pick your Party for the best possible team.

Try to include some Vikings with Defense-oriented builds to help balance out the Party and provide a solid base of Health for the battle.

    Inviting

Three invite links provided in the Invite Tab on the Raid Boss battle page. To invite a Viking to join your Party, send them the link that fits the level of the player you are inviting.

If you wish, you can also close off previously sent links. Click the Invalidate Link button to close off the previous URL and generate a fresh one. Anyone with the previously sent link will will be unable to use that same URL to join your Raid Party.

If you just want to fill up your slots quickly, you can also turn on Public Sharing. This opens up your Raid Party positions to be filled by any player who visits your Raid Boss page, regardless of whether or not you have invited them.

Once someone has joined the Raid you are stuck with them for the rest of the battle, so use Public Sharing with caution!

    Raid Group Health

The Raid Party has a shared pool of health, which is calculated based on members’ total Health and Defense skills at the time they joined the Raid. As new members join, the max health of the Party will be updated.

Party members can use Energy to replenish the Party’s Health. Keep a close watch on the Raid Health Bar, as the Boss will do damage back every time someone attacks it.

As the Raid Party’s Health is reduced, member’s attacks will do less damage. If the Party’s Health ever hits zero, the Party has been wiped. The Boss will heal when it wipes the Party, so watch out!

It’s a good idea to include some Vikings with defense-oriented builds in your Party to help establish a solid base of Health.

    Raid Boss Mechanics

    Battling the Boss

The Attack and Barrage buttons are used to deal damage to the Raid Boss. The Raid Boss will hit back when you attack, and in a twist unique to the Raid Boss if it manages to wipe the Party’s Health, the Boss will heal back up to the last checkpoint.

Checkpoints for Boss Health take place in 10% increments. So for example, if the Eldjotunn is down to 75% Health, then succeeds in wiping the Raid Party, it will heal back up to 80%.

Every time your Party wipes, the amount of XP awarded for actions is reduced, so make sure to keep the Raid Group healed!

Players who keep attacking when the Party is at low health and cause a wipe are tracked, and will get benched if they do it repeatedly. Anyone who has caused the party to wipe 2 times will be unable to make any further offensive actions against the Boss and won’t be able do anything but Heal for the remainder of the battle.

    Boss Kill Rewards

Loot is claimed when the Raid Boss is defeated. If the battle timer runs out before the Raid Boss has been killed, the Boss will escape without dropping any items.

The Raid Boss has 6 loot items, each with a Common version and a Superior version, the latter being stronger and rarer.

Everyone who does at least 1,000 healing actions and 1,000 overall actions (this is a combination of attacking and healing) will be awarded with a Loot item, Cash, and XP when the Raid Boss is defeated. The drop you get is determined by random, however under special conditions a player may be guaranteed a Superior item drop. For example, a Viking who summons their very first Raid Boss will get a Superior drop when it is defeated.

    General Tips

The Raid Boss is meant to be a challenging event! Even with a large and dedicated team, it will often take several days to defeat it, so don’t go in expecting an easy win.

However with care and coordination your Party can take it down fast and more efficiently. Work together, keep your health up and try to do Barrages instead of basic attacks when you can. Don’t let your Party get wiped, or it will set you back!

It might take some time to summon a Raid Boss as the Keys drop randomly from doing Adventures. If you haven’t received a Key yet, keep at it! Remember to do the highest Energy requirement Adventure in a Location for the best shot at getting a Key.

It is highly recommended that you keep your Raid Group private and use the Invite Links provided to add members to your Party.

The Raid Boss does have Health checkpoints, but try not to let your Party wipe as this reduces your XP returns.

That just about covers the Raid Boss! You can expect to see the Eldjotunn live in game tomorrow morning. Any feedback you have during the event can be left in this thread. Good luck!

Hmm so no change since the last one in PC just 1,000 heals needed, that is not what we had hoped for or were told,as we were told at that time,2 weeks between PC raids was not enough time for more tweaks, so unless I am missing something and I apologize ahead of time, nothing new has been added for the raid vampires ???

Yes if indeed nothing was addressed regarding players who run up attacks but only do the minimum in healing then I'm afraid I was right in my assessment that KANO does not understand how serious this issue is.

You know I don't like coming back empty handed, but despite my talks with the devs and the relaying of your posts about the situation, the developers have not made any mechanical changes to the Raid Boss (although to the fair the 2,000 actions is new to VC) since last time. That does not mean that we can rule that out completely for future Raid Bosses, just to be clear.

Mitch I know it is not you or your decision, so this is not directed at you personally :) I know you tell the players what you are told :)

I wish they would change the tiers, cents getting low levels are hard to do. And the 4,000 and up goes so very fast. Also wish they would limit how many RB you can be doing at a time. Cents some people like to join everyone they can. Like the very high levels do and they just do what they need to.

Oh I should say I am happy seeing this posted today and we learn when it will be starting ahead of time. And also that we can get the keys in the easier adventures. So that way we don't have to spend so much energy to get them, hopefully.

I think a person should not be able to be in more than 10 raids at any given time.

Well since you are our conduit to the developers I'm afraid you have to bear the brunt of the angry posts. This guy (and others like him) are laughing out loud that apparently they will once again be able to just do the minimum in healing and attack all they want. What his also does is force a lot of these raid groups on these bosses to stop healing it and leave the health down to force these "vampires" to heal the boss themselves if they want to attack it. And that defeats the whole objective in a sense. I don't understand the reluctance that KANO is showing in addressing this. A simple sliding scale would solve this problem. If you do X amount of damage you must do X amount of healing or you will no longer be able to attack the boss.

The last RB I was in was a very big disappointment, but since they are going anywhere might as well get used to them. There should be a limit to how many Bosses you can join, otherwise the chance for abuse will be taken by some and complained about by others.
It also makes sense that Viking Clan is a RPG which allows for some pretty interesting character builds. Some people are all attack and stamina...sometimes (stress that sometimes) that is all a viking is needed for.
There should be a minimum mandatory heal of a thousand, the last groups I remember taking them down easily flew past that number.

So no change in the energy drops? Great. Once again the posters are ignored.

There is a mandatory heal of 1,000 heals, which does not take into account players who refuse to do more than that, and is really nothing , since they would rather they wait till someone else heals and then attack again and again and again before the person get his attacks in, and it is not because they do not have energy , it is just because they feel they deserve it. It will happen in VC and it will Happen in every raid unless Kano takes this seriously, and It does not look as if they will and I go back to the second raid in PC which was just two weeks after the first and the reason we got the short fix of 2,000 actions cause there was no time. Well IMO there has been plenty of time now and they just said it to keep us quiet,, well that is not gonna work, we can be ignored but it won't stop the complaints just like some complaints about other things, Kano asks us and then usually do their own thing, cause they don't play the games, and testing something is NOT playing the game.

    Glad to see:

    1) Increase in the amount of Attacks/Heals needed by assisters in order to get the drops...
    2) New set of 12 cool weapons common and rare for this round of raid bosses....

--- As to Kissmyace, why would you join only one boss? There is great incentive to assist and help kill many raid bosses for many great weapon drops. ((I am confused by a few folks who refuse to participate and minimally participate, those weap drops are really nice)).

Isn't there a better way of saying this? I think you mean 1000 healing actions and 2000 overall actions? Or do you mean 1800 attacks and 200 heals? Or 1000 attacks and 1000 heals? Or 2000 heals?

If this is like PC, it will be 1000 minimum heals required (50 x 20 energy) per Raid Boss. Hopefully the energy drop rate is not set at the chiseler rate but it could be. For levels to 2500, it will be a free exercise to get to that level (been there done that in PC). For others, I hope you have your FP's saved up.
